ABOUT US

Here’s a bit about us- I’m Patrick O’Flynn and Round the Block is a husband and wife run butchers block company which started as a lockdown scribble on a fag packet (so to speak) and is now a flourishing business. With personal passions and joint wide experience in hospitality and kitchen design, here is a bit about us and where Round the Block originated:

Starting off my career in hospitality, living in Spain and running restaurants for a number of years, it was here that my love of good cookery and the Spanish rustic countryside was formed.

On my return to England several years later,  I continued to work in the food world and ran an award winning gastro pub in The Cotswolds where I met my now wife Tamzin, who had previously trained at Leiths cookery school in London and was a private caterer (having swapped careers from the dizzy heights of music management).

Once our first daughter was born (now about to study to become a Doctor at Nottingham Uni!), we made the decision to up sticks and moved to Brighton, where I stepped away from being a pub landlord, to start my own high end kitchen design and fitting company ‘Klassy Kitchens’ which has been successfully keeping us fed and watered for the last 20 years.

Once the pressures of childcare had settled down, Tamzin set up a catering business called ‘Marine Cuisine’ which covered areas in and around Brighton, supplying high quality food for glamorous dinner parties and events such as festivals and music concerts.

During lockdown, it was a time to get creative, and even though ‘Klassy Kitchens’ was still ticking along nicely, I wanted a new challenge. Being in the kitchen trade had rekindled my love and use of wood, especially oak in all its shaded and finishes, and, inspired by my past in the rustic Spanish scenery, I decided to build a butcher’s block island, and so Round the Block was born.
